Laudato Si’ Week encourages the faithful to build a better world
Vatican-sponsored initiative features online training and global day of prayer
Laudato Si’ Week, the weeklong celebration honoring Pope Francis’ encyclical on ecology and climate change, will take place online next month.
Pope Francis has encouraged the faithful to participate in Laudato Si’ Week through a video message.
The Vatican’s Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development invites Catholics to participate in this initiative that “launches a year-long journey of transformation, as we grow through the crisis of the current moment by praying, reflecting, and preparing together for a better world to come tomorrow.”
The lessons of the encyclical are particularly relevant in the context of the coronavirus pandemic, which has brought many parts of the world to a halt. Laudato Si’ offers a vision for building a more just and sustainable world.
As a leading partner in this global initiative, the Carmelite NGO invites everyone to stand with us and Catholics all around the world as we grow through this crisis and build a better world together.
Over the past year, the Carmelite NGO has developed a Study Plan for Secondary Schools on Laudato Si’, a book with simple reflections on the Ecological Conversion, which inserts Laudato Si’ in the course of the Social Doctrine of the Church, and a program to study and make visible the global crisis of sea level rise due to climate change (https://carmelitengo.org/en/proyectos/ ).
During Laudato Si’ Week, the Carmelite NGO will continue its leadership in integral ecology (at https://carmelitengo.org/en/#info-home ).
From 16 to 23 May, Catholics are invited to take part in interactive and collaborative online trainings. Laudato Si’ Week will end Sunday, 24 May, with a global day of prayer at noon, local time.
“Nature helps us to love one another and also God in a more noble and profound manner”.
Bl. Titus Brandsma.
The theme of Laudato Si’ Week is “everything is connected.”
In his video message, Pope Francis asked Catholics to think about the future of our common home.
“What kind of world do we want to leave to those who will come after us, to children who are growing up? Motivated by this question, I would like to invite you to participate in Laudato Si’ Week from 16-24 May 2020. It is a global campaign on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the encyclical letter Laudato Si’ on the care of the common home. I renew my urgent call to respond to the ecological crisis, the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor cannot continue. Let’s take care of creation, a gift of our good Creator God. Let’s celebrate Laudato Si’ Week together. May God bless you and do not forget to pray for me.”
Laudato Si’ Week is sponsored by the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development and led by a cohort of Catholic partners. More information can be found at LaudatoSiWeek.org.
