COP26 – and the expectation – comes to an end

COP26 closes its curtain and in the final scene appears, as expected, a conclusive document (still in draft form) that looks flaccid, unable to even begin to act globally to comply with the Paris Agreement.

The Holy See, with its missive on the eve of the concluding day, expressed the disenchantment of the human face of the climate crisis:

During these two weeks, various “gaps” have emerged in the fields of mitigation, adaptation and financing. The resources made available for these three aspects, which are fundamental for achieving the objectives of the Paris Agreement, will need to be strengthened and renewed in order to achieve these goals…

Despite this, there is still hope that countries will be able to reach an agreement on a clear roadmap to close these gaps soon, with developed countries taking the lead.

Initiatives that must consider divestment from fossil fuels, development of alternative energy and  climate finance assistance to the countries most in need.

Let’s see what happens….

(Will we see what happens?)

“The only governmental organization that really cares about the life of the planet is the Vatican, thanks to the universal message of the Holy See. We Catholics are the only ones who have no particular interests to guarantee, but only the good of the whole world community. This is the message we take from our participation. All other governmental and business organizations are conditioned by the strong powers of economics and finance.” Andrea Ventimiglia, Observer Delegate, Carmelite NGO
