We are in awe before the human person and, from that experience, we respect each human being.
“… the basis of our belief in the equal dignity of all human persons is the transcendental origin of humanity, from which the distinctions of sex, race, color, creed language, among others, make no sense. This belief increases our mutual respect and is the basis of our understanding of human rights. We marvel at the miracle that the human person is by his own nature. We seek a sense of wonder and respect for the natural dignity of each human person, regardless of their condition in life. Justice demands this. The truth requires it. Peace can come from that” (Position Statement on Human Rights, page 9).
