Preparing the Future. Steps to Regenerate it.

The Vatican COVID19 Commission reports directly to the Holy Father and is located within the Dicastery for Promoting Human Integral Development, under the direction of Cardinal Peter K.A. Turkson.

It has five working groups, the leadership of which is divided among the various dicasteries:

  • WG 1: Acting Now for the Future, seeking to Listen and Respond to Local Leadership.
  • WG 2: Looking to the future with creativity, creating and providing Integral and Creative Solutions.
  • WG 3: Communicating hope, shinning a light on Good Works.
  • WG 4: Seeking Dialogue and Common Reflection, supporting Diplomacy and International Relations.
  • WG 5: Supporting to Sustain, building a Channel of Resources.

The collaborative and interdicasterial design of the Commission makes use of the individual and collective experience of its members to foster a new imagination of what is possible to accomplish that can only be done together and in collaboration with Universities and scholars, private and public sector representatives, and social movements.

The Commission’s work recognizes that all the world’s people, like our social systems, are interconnected, and that only through a culture of encounter and care, of collective action and shared responsibility, can we transform our world.

As the world moves toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) promoted by the United Nations (UN), a change of hearts and minds, that is to say, a conversion to a holistic ecology in key to Gospel, is needed to devise recovery programs capable of healing people and saving the planet.

The Commission seeks to catalyze collective responsibility and action, and to prepare decision-makers to act for the common good now and in the future.

Path to Regeneration:

The mission will be looking forward to

  1. Strengthening position of local churches to lead and serve.
  2. Coordinating messages and calls to action to enable decisions and mobilize action.
  3. Developing multi-year church commitments launched with resource and strategy plan.
  4. Fostering internal collaboration and coordination strengthened with new ways of working.

The Carmelite NGO accompanies and fully supports this strategic plan.
