The Vatican COVID19 Commission reports directly to the Holy Father and is located within the Dicastery for Promoting Human Integral Development, under the direction of Cardinal Peter K.A. Turkson.
It has five working groups, the leadership of which is divided among the various dicasteries:
The collaborative and interdicasterial design of the Commission makes use of the individual and collective experience of its members to foster a new imagination of what is possible to accomplish that can only be done together and in collaboration with Universities and scholars, private and public sector representatives, and social movements.
The Commission’s work recognizes that all the world’s people, like our social systems, are interconnected, and that only through a culture of encounter and care, of collective action and shared responsibility, can we transform our world.
As the world moves toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) promoted by the United Nations (UN), a change of hearts and minds, that is to say, a conversion to a holistic ecology in key to Gospel, is needed to devise recovery programs capable of healing people and saving the planet.
The Commission seeks to catalyze collective responsibility and action, and to prepare decision-makers to act for the common good now and in the future.
